Welcome to the new Grand Army of the Republic Civil War Museum & Library website. We at the museum hope that our website will fulfill your needs and serve as an information and educational tool. The mission of the museum is to preserve not only the history of the Civil War, but also the memory of the men whose participation in that war helped define us as a nation. Our artifacts and records have all come from those who fought the war or their families as a gift.
We also hope that you will come and visit the museum and see these wonderful artifacts yourself. You can also take advantage of our library which contains over 5,000 books and other research materials. Our volunteers will help you with your research, and they are also available to deliver first class tours for individuals and groups. The G.A.R. Museum and Library is proud to be the center piece for information and education of the Civil War in the Philadelphia.
So please, utilize our new website and come visit us at the museum. Our doors are open on Tuesdays from 12:00pm - 4:00pm, and we are open on the first Sunday of each month, from 12:00pm - 5:00pm, for an open house presentation featuring authors, historians and reenactors. The museum is free of charge, though we do greatly appreciate a donation of $2 per person. Your donations help to keep our museum operational, from general maintenance to acquiring new artifacts for our collection.
We thank you for your interest in the history of the Civil War and the Grand Army of the Republic, and we look forward to seeing you soon at the Grand Army of the Republic Museum and Library.
